Eve Shrug
I have made a start on the Eve Shrug for TP, I was suppose to have started this when I finished Lossy’s Log Cabin Socks, but I got carried away on his slippers. Having reached the point where the slippers, I should really say slipper as there is only one, is to be grafted I wanted something easier on the hands to knit.
I started out well, until I realised that yes it was wrong to be slipping only 1 stitch to the cable needle for the left slant cable, I was six rows in when I realised this but thought it might not be too noticeable at the bottom of the back as it was.
I carried on up to where the bobbles are. Now I think I am a pretty experienced knitter, but I have never made bobbles before, first time for everything. I was surpised at how much they do stand out from the fabric, & confused by how they are on the wrong size until you purl into the back of them on the next round. How that pulls them around I do not know, but it does.
Having now repeated a full pattern I think I am going to pull it back and re-start. I know the mistake isn’t too noticeable but I know it is there and always will. It will drive me crazy every time TP wears it, so I think it is for the best, and it really is good weather here in Auckland at the moment to be snuggled up on the couch all day knitting. So I will leave you for the warmth of my couch, a wheat bag and a warm cuppa with a final photo of the shrug before it is frogged.

Slipper Progress
I have almost compeleted the first of Lossy’s new slippers. The twistered garter stitch sole was a real killer on my “old before their time” fingers. I continuely got cramp in my left hand and my right hand fingers would just stop working. Anyway here is the results so far…

I have also this week started a crocheted hat for Besty, the slippers for her really were not working and are now frogged. This Hat does seem to be going better, although I didn’t get it finished for her to take on holiday but there will be plenty of chances to wear it here in Auckland over the coming months.

Also this week both Besty & myself attended our first knitting group. Knit Rangers out at The Packing Shed cafe in west auckland. It was nice to meet all the lovely ladies & I look forward to going again.

I Went Pro
on flickr. It was well worth it, the ability to organise into collections & sets is great. I could spend hours organising things and adding 100s of set, but I won’t. I will instead just show off a couple of photos I took when I got my A200. I wanted to take, what I would call environmental portraits of my Dad. Here is what I got in the limited space I had, as his HSV was in the garage at the time making hard to manoeuvre.

I think I will see if I can have another go with him at some point, without the car in the way.

Paint The Whole World with a Rainbow
It was a “Mummy Daughter Day” today as the school had a Teachers only Day. We had great plans of doing lots of things but when it came down to it we just enjoyed ourselves. We took a trip to the local outlet mall to see what bargains we could find. Most bargains it would seem did not come in our sizes today so we left with only a small purchase of a red riding hood coat for TP, a bargain it was, having been marked down to just $5 as a button needed to be re-sewn on.
At home we made some rainbow cupcakes, I had seen a thread on Craftster about these and thought I’d give it a go.
Here they are all bloby before heading into the oven

Cooking in the oven, please excuse the dirt, really must clean that oven

The finished product.
I didn’t realise that food colouring did in fact change the taste of food, but hey TP will eat them, if Lossy & myself don’t.

Felt Like A Change
Its been about 6 months so I think it is only fair that I change my theme, don’t you? I went through all the templates that WordPress have, and they have a good few, and decided that I don’t need a Customer Header. After much thought I went with what you see, UnSleepable by Ben Gray. I hope you like.
I finally got around to uploading some of the photos I took last weekend at Piha, only two for now, but as I’m about to go and upgrade to Flickr Pro I can assure you that there will be more to come.

Piha Surfers
On the knitting front, I haven’t done much really, after finishing Lossy’s Socks I had a few nights of idleness, which is good sometimes. I have since tried to go back to Besty’s slippers but I am finding the going hard, after around 20 minutes I get incredible cramp in my right hand and my left wrist clicks with every stitch. I wonder if this is a common problem with ‘Hookers’. I have also cast on some Slippers for Lossy to replace his sad felted clogs, but with a twisted stitch sole it is slow going and not helping my hand or wrist. I am wanting to do something small and easy, like a scarf but don’t have the real drive to get it done right now.

Lossy’s Two Warm Feet
I was able to do it, I managed to finish Lossy’s other Log Cabin Sock, so now he has two warm feet.
We had lovely time at Piha this past weekend, even though I was knocked out by this “flu” thing my colleagues were kind enough to pass on. I am still to upload the few photos that I took, but I will share when I do. This brings be to a bit of a quandary, I have reached 200 photos on flickr, I now have to decide if I want to pay the $36NZ to upgrade to a Pro Account.

So warm
Been pretty cold in these parts of late, so Lossy is very happy to receive a new sock, now I just have to do the second. I think this is going to become a favorite sock pattern as it uses 8 ply yarn, and knits up fast and to a great looking product.
I hope to finish the second one this weekend, while I
1: Recover from small bout of “flu” I have.
2: Enjoy the new found delights of the West Coast.
3: Enjoy the undivided company of Lossy.
4: Celebrate our 8th wedding anniversary.
Will update you with lots of photos next week on our return.

Soup
My besty was kind enough to help me out with a list of foods I could cook for dinner this past week. I hate cooking & as a result don’t have much fun with doing it, nor do I try many new things. So when I was instructed to buy dry kidney beans, which required soaking overnight before I could use them, I was a bit worried. But I am happy to report, I was orginised enough to do so and made this yummy soup with them.

Now, the recipe she had told me to cut all the bits up small but I like chunks, I also added some pasta and lots of garlic.
