Knitting from Charts 101

Posted in Knitting tagged , , , at 8:03 pm by sbub

  1. Knit rows are read right to left
  2. Purl rows are read left to right.
Point 2. should be noted, this is what I forgot when I merrily sailed away on the Lace & Cable top. I did stop a few times and wondered why my lace did not look like that in the photo, but I continued on. Silly girl, I could stop now frog the whole lot and start again, but I won’t because I know if I did that it would never get finished, and hey, who will ever really know apart from you.

Lace & Cable Top

Posted in Knitting tagged , , , at 12:08 pm by sbub

Not a lot of knitting on the blog in the past week. I have been doing a small amount but my right middle finger has developed a mild case of excema right were the yarn runs over it, which means I can only do a couple of rows in a sitting. The fact that I’m knitting cotton might make it worse being a little ruff on the skin at the best of times.

I have managed to get a bit done on the Lace & Cable Top from the Summer Vogue Knitting. I was confused at first how to increase and remain with the pattern, but Mum helped me out on that and away I went. I’m really looking forward to having this finished, as it will be great for work in the summer heat, with a white singlet underneath, no need for fellow workers to see my bra, as in the magazine.

Open Day at The Civic

Posted in Photography tagged , at 5:20 pm by sbub

As part of the Auckland Heritage Festival, The Civic was opened up yesterday free of charge for people to wonder around. To spend a good hour inside and be able to take photos was amazing. I didn’t have a tripod with me so some have camera shake, but I’m pretty happy with them.

If you would like a better look inside the cinema there is an amazing 360ø view of it.

Basket Weave Sock: Done & Dusted

Posted in Knitting tagged , , at 4:59 pm by sbub

The basket weave socks are well and truly done I’d I’m happy with them. The second skein of yarn was a lot different to the first but I think Dad won’t mind, lets just hope the fit. These socks are my first without that horrible hole in the heel that I had been getting by picking up an extra stitch at the heel and instep point, what i learnt is that you need to pick up two stitches (one from each side of the gap)

You can see in this photo how the second sock has a bit of a ring of brown.

Flora Photos

I often thought I would enjoy being the house photographer for Yates or another seed company. As soon as I got my first SLR I developed a love for photographing nature and have continued it. I am still to really test out the A200 with the types of shots below, but the to live up to the s7000 is going to be hard, the 1cm macro ability has been used to great effect in its 3 year life, and it is one of the reason I am yet to list it on Trademe.

These photos were taken In Queensland, Australia in March of 2006, our families first (and to date only) overseas holiday. It’s nice too look back and remember the lovely weather we had there, and look forward to what is to come this summer for us. They were all taken with my Fujifilm s7000.

Basket Weave Socks: One Skein Gone

Posted in Knitting at 9:16 am by sbub

Backet Weave Sock One skein gone and this is what I have done on the second sock. I did a little bit of math with the help of the scales and TP and we worked out that I am 24 grams (92 metres) short for completing this sock. So it is lucky that I purchased another skein to compete this, I just have to work out what is going to be the best way to join the yarn in. It isn’t really the ideal part of the sock to be joining new yarn, but I will have to live with it.

Looks like I will be finishing these this week (2 months early) all things going well, which means I will be able to move onto the Lace & Cable top. I’m looking forward to this but I’m thinking it’s not going to be something I can do while watching TV as the lace is pretty intense for me, I have being playing around a little on the swatch and have found I need to do some research on how to do the shaping. It says to “increase using a YO stitch in the lace pattern and removing the corresponding decrease”. Which is cool I understand that but I don’t get how I then deal with that extra stitch in the lace pattern on the next row.

Photo Feature: Part 2

Posted in Photography tagged , at 5:01 pm by sbub

These photos were taken on our first digital camera, a Kodak DX3600. That good old camera served us very well and is still going strong in the hands of TP.

I have spent a bit of time tonight organizing my 1000s of photos in iPhoto. While I was doing so I thought it would be nice to share some, so here is the first of what I’m sure will be many.

These were all take at Muriwai, on the North Island’s West Coast, in 2004. They were taken with my Fujifilm S7000 just after I purchased it.

Somehow I have only uploaded the small ones, I will try to fix this in the coming days.

Basket Weave Socks: Part 2

Posted in Knitting tagged , , , , at 5:52 pm by sbub

Basket Weave SockSock 1 is finished and number 2 is well on its way. My yarn from Vintage Purls arrived on Monday along with my new set of DPNs. I have learned a lesson when it comes to hand dyed yarn, which I really should have already known, no two skeins will be alike, as a result the new skein of Brunswick has a lot warmer then the first, but it will only be used in the foot of the sock which isn’t seen much so it’s not of two much of a shame.

With the remainder of the skein I plan to make the Winter Twilight Mitts from Daily Knitting. I will use the Deep Blue Ocean for the background and the Brunswick for the black. But more on that when I’m closer to casting on.

Also this weekend I did my swatch for a summer top, the Cable & Lace Top from Summer Vogue Knitting
