Variegation Disappointment
One of the yarns I purchased last weekend was a verigated acrylic in what I thought at the time earthy colours, you know brown, orange a bit of green. I picked out the Cashmere Neck Warmer pattern as I liked how it looked kind of woven. Now obviously the Jelly yarn is not a of bulky weight so I couldn’t follow the pattern so I did my normal ‘that will do cast on’, which is where a measure out with the yarn about the width I would like then times that by 3 and do a long tail cast on, to date this has never failed me, although I’m sure the next time I do it it will as I have just jinxed myself.
Away I went, the stitch pattern is nice and easy to remember and was giving me a wonderful looking scarf, I then looked down at my ball of yarn and noted, with a heavy heart, that all I could now see in the reminder of my ball was green, admittedly it is a nice shade of green but not what I was expecting. It is always a risk you take with variegated yarns, that there might be a colour in amongst it that you weren’t expecting or that it may pool rather oddly. Luckily the later was not a problem with my neck warmer.
Below is a shot of the orange and brown which I really like in the yarn, the second photo you can see how it ended up with more green then what I would have liked.
I will live with it however, as it is only short it just wraps over itself and I can hide a lot of the green that way.

Calorimetry
I did some stash enhancement this weekend while out and about looking for an outfit for a company christmas party. I really did not need to add to my stash, I must admit I did entertain the idea of sneaking it over to my side of the bed so Lossy did not notice but I’m just not like that. I got this to make TP a Calorimetry after making one the below with some Vero I had left over, I was amazed how quick and satisfying it was to make.

I think TP’s really suites her and she love it.
The jumper for TP took a little holiday this weekend when I mucked up the neckline. So much for the shawl look I was going for, I really should have read a pattern with a neckline like I wanted before charging ahead, they are not constructed the way I though so I am having to change the design, but TP asures me she still likes it. This is what it looked like before I frogged it, I now know how to fix it so will get stuck in next weekend.

Rethinking projects
I had a bit of a wardrobe clean out yesterday and came to the conclusion that I don’t really need any more knitted items of clothing, apart from a possum a-line jacket that mum is kind enough to make me
. So I have had to rethink my current list of projects in my queue.
The winter preview of interweave knits (the magazine I subscripbed to) has this great hooded scarf, which I am very keen on and as my wonderful Mum just happened to have the required yarn in her stash I am just waiting for the magazine to arrive in the PO Box. The winter Twilight Mitts have moved up the queue as another non garment project and I think the SOS slippers will also be close behind.

2nd Try
I’m trying it again, designing a top for TP, but this time I’m going top down with afterthought sleeves as decriped in Wendy Burnard’s Book “Custom Knits”. This book is great, not only does it have some wonderful patterns but it also show you how to customise them and start from nothing to knit tops.
It looks like it has a huge neck but I’m planing on a large rib neck edging, not really sure how to describe it but something along the lines of the colar on this. When TP tried it on she said something along the lines of “but nana knits from the bottom up” in a tone that was questioning if I knew what I was doing. I hope I do, I don’t want this to be another one of my projects that goes into hibernation.

Garden Grow
Not much happening on the knitting front at the moment bar a little present that I will tell you about later. However I pulled up the first of our Radishes yesterday, beautiful day it was to be in the garden. The only reason I planted radishes was because I read on the carrot packet you plant them together, and that is always what dad did. unfortunately I must of got a dud batch of carrot seeds as the only thing that came up was the radishes. What you do with radishes I’m not 100% sure, we had one cut up in the salad last night which was nice and I gave the tops to the rabbit & guinea pig.
The sugar snap peas are growing really fast, although my tee pee didn’t work to well. TP had asked how we teach them to climb up the sticks, she suggested we get a pea teacher, this might have been a good idea. I have wrapped some string around the sticks and have tried to get them to hold on to it but they have minds of their own. Still I don’t think it will be too big a deal in the end, I can’t wait to see flower on them.
And finally our roses have come into flower again, the guy we brought off told us they were called first love, they are the brightest pink rose I have ever seen. I took some into work to brighten up the office on Friday but there are still heaps left on the bush.
I hope early next week to have some knitting to share with you.

Granny Square Skirt
This should really be called Granny Square Belt. I would be horrified if my 7 year old wore this without anything underneath. She loves it, which is great, I really am unsure about it. It is all left overs, the pink and blue from the Eve Shrug and the purple from my Puff Sleeve Crop Jacket.
I have always had problems with Granny Squares in the past but after about my 7th one I got the hang of them and enjoyed them in the end.

Project #50
I have only been on Ravelry since September 2007, thats over a year I didn’t relise I had been there for that long how times flys, and I have started my 50th project. Ok well really I have added projects that I did before Ravelry but even so…
What you ask is my 50th project, well you more than likely know as most people find my blog thew Ravelry, It is a Granny Square Skirt for TP. She has picked out the yarn from my left over stash and is helping me along the way. So far I have the waist band, and 8.75 of the 20 granny squares. I’m not going to use the one with blue, just the pink and purple ones. I’m thinking I will have to use the purple to join them all together and line the skirt somehow, just in case TP thinks its ok to wear it without leggings underneath.
